Research Research partnerships Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Are you working on a research project that aims to improve understanding of thyroid disease and how to treat it? If your project would benefit from Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) please get in touch as we can help you find patients who are willing to share their own experiences of living with a thyroid disorder. As patient advocates we can also join your research teams as a partner and ensure the patient perspective is represented throughout the course of the trial. Below are some of the recent and current research studies in which we are PPIE partners: The T3-HF Trial: A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of orally administered Triiodothyronine (T3) for 24 weeks in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection (HFrEF) HoT trial: Hemithyroidectomy or Total-Thyroidectomy in ‘low-risk’ thyroid cancers RABBIT: Radiofrequency ABlation of Benign Intrathyroidal Tumours RiGD-2: Rituximab in Graves’ disease 2 RAIN: Does persisting thyroid inflammation explain poor quality of life after radioiodine therapy (RAI)? TRIUMPH (Trial of Mycophenolate for Persistent Symptoms of Hypothyroidism LIONSS study: Liothyronine Sulphate (T3S) use in hypothyroid subjects on T4 homozygous for the Thr92Ala Deiodinase2 (D2) polymorphism OPAL: Optimal Prescribing of Levothyroxine Study If you'd like to involve thyroid patients as a way to improve the design of your study, get in touch to discuss opportunities to work together. Find out how we can support your research If you are a patient or carer of someone with a thyroid disorder and would like to join our Patient Panel to find out about opportunities to contribute to research please follow the link below: Join our Patient Panel We are a member of the Clinical Trials Ambassdor network. This accreditation means we have undergone training to support patients interested in clinical trials to learn about what they involve and help them find trials that may be relevant to them. We sometimes work with pharmaceutical and other commercial organisations on projects that provide outcomes that may benefit thyroid patients. This work is governed by our Fair Market Value Policy which outlines the principles and guidelines for establishing fair pricing when we enter such partnerships. The purpose is to ensure transparency, sustainability, and alignment with the BTF’s mission while securing fair compensation for BTF’s time.
